Abstract
Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship among employment status and depressive symptom, suicidal ideation, suicidal plan and suicide attempt.

Methods: Among participants in the 7th National Health and Nutrition Survey, the analysis included 7,425 people who answered questions about whether they are standard workers aged 20 or older. Employment status was categorized into standard workers and non-standard workers. Differences in sociodemographic characteristics, health-related behaviors and job characteristics were assessed by complex sample ¥ö©÷-test. The relationship of depressive symptom, suicidal ideation, suicidal plan and suicide attempt and among dependent variables was assessed by complex sample logistic regression analysis.

Results: Out of a total of 7425 workers (male=3679, female=3768), standard workers were 3456, non-standard workers were 3679. Sociodemographic characteristics, health-related behaviors and job characteristics between standard workers and non-standard workers were statistically significant difference (P<0.001) except stress(P=0.583). Marital status influenced suicidal ideation and suicide attempt in non-standard workers. Stress influenced depressive symptom, suicidal ideation and suicidal plan. Suicidal plan influenced suicide attempt in standard workers (OR= 34431.081, P=0.001) and in non-standard workers (OR= 140600.479, P =0.001)

Conclusion: Non-standard workers are more exposed to physical and mental health risks than standard workers. Marital status and stress reduction can prevent depression and prevention of depression is a way to reduce suicide rates and alternatives are needed at the individual, company and national level.
